Have you ever swum with wild pigs or hugged a grouper? These are just a few of the unique experiences that the Bahamas has to offer. During our stay in Green Turtle Cay, we had the chance to witness these natural phenomena. The locals keep the pigs watered, and watching them swim in the bay despite their wild nature is fascinating. With over 700 Islands, 30 of these inhabited, each with its own unique charm, and the planet's third-largest barrier reef running northwest to southwest for 760 miles, the Bahamas is a paradise for unique water experiences.
Accessible only by boat, and the famous Exumas, known for a stunning barrier reef, chains of beaches, and clear waters. Andros Island is the world's third-deepest blue hole, and Nassau and Paradise Island are the capital and very popular to visit. Bimini is the gateway for American boaters arriving, and popular day Islands include Blue Lagoon Island and Cat Island.
Foodies can sniff out all the conch, conch fritters, fresh fish, and good island food. Island food is a favorite of mine, and I love watching how the locals actually get the conch out of the beautiful shells.
Believe it or not, with these barrier reefs, there are also fabulous and stunning Golf Courses!
With all these barrier reefs and one-of-a-kind pink sand beaches, situated on the top-ranked Harbor Island is a fairy-tale with its pastel-colored houses, quaint Dunmore town with golf carts only, and a boater's destination. Photographed heavily, she is often called the Nantucket of the Caribbean.
Whether you're a fan of water sports, a beach lover, or a sports enthusiast, the Bahamas has something for everyone. All the Islands offer beautiful snorkeling, scuba diving, walking pink or white beaches depending on where you are, jaw-dropping sunsets and water sports. Some of the local top sports that may interest you is cricket, basketball, soccer, track and field and sloop sailing.
Believe it or not, with these barrier reefs, there are also fabulous and stunning Golf Courses!
Health care in the Bahamas can be more expensive, and we usually recommend private health insurance coverage. There are international health Insurance providers who can assist expats. There are some public medical programs provided to expats living in the Bahamas, depending on your residency status, called the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. You may qualify for this program and combine it with supplemental insurance for any additional costs.
